Engineer's computer by Raovina Haq Ra
As an engineer, we often have a work that make us have to use computer, specially because now we are in computalize era. We need computer that can cover our necessity, for example to run some huge applications or softwares, and sometime to play the games. To fulfill that wants, we need to build our own computer, on the purpose we can choose the best component so that in the end our computer can cover our necessity.
1.The first tool we need is motherboard. Motherboard is a place where other components are stuck. The functionis to connect all components so that all components can do their job integratedly. One of important components that is stuck on motherboard is processor. It’s better to choose the high end processor, that is 2nd generation Intel® Core™ i7 processor Extreme Edition, because as the newest one, it has extra performance on demand, and smart multitasking. And then we choose chipset Intel Z68 an socket LGA1155 because it supports integrated graph and use overclock method. And then, we have to make sure that our motherboard have harddisk interface 3, support PCI Express 16x, and memori DDR 3 SDRAM. We choose harddisk interface 3, because it will make data transfer from or to hardisk can be maximum, and program execution will be faster. For DIMM, the place we put memory, it’s better for us to choose motherboard that have DIMM more than three, so that it’s easier for us to add memory then. RAM is function to keep temporary datafrom the program which we run and we can access the data randomly. RAM DDR3 is the best solution for our needs because it is compatible with our processor.

2. The next component that we need is video card. Video card itsel has a function to produce the output, in this term : picture, to monitor. Video card or VGA (video graphic adapter) that we use is VGA PCI Express, because we use PCI express 16x. it’s good for us, because engineer is aske for master the graphic, so with good quality of VGA we can improve the quality.
3.Optical disk drive such as CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, or DVD-RW. We don’t really need this stuff. But sometimes we need it, for example to copy some data, or to apply some software. Because of that, as an additional, it’s better that we also have this one. And I choose CD-RW because it can not only read but also to write to disc.
4. Mouse and keyboard. Actually this is up to the user. Nowadays there are plenty type of keyboard and mouse. For example, keyboard with many pictures on it, or the shape is like the animal. And for the mouse, beside it is available in many colours, there are so many features that we’ll find. For example, ball shape, cartoon animation shape and others. However, for me, it’s better to have ergonomics keyboard and mouse, so that we can work effectively and efficiently. For example, I choose keyboard that the tuts is comfortable for me typing. And I choose mouse which is suitabla with my hand, not too big,nor too small.
5. Monitor. There are 3 types of monitor according to the technology it’s made. CRT ( cathode ray tube ), LCD (liquid crystal display ), LED (light emitting diode ). CRT use empty space to show the picture with cathode light. CRT is big, and need extra space, ang has less colour resolution. LCD is the development of CRT, it is slighter, and has better colour resolution. LED has the best quality with high contrast ratio and more realistic. Therefore, as engineer we need LED monitor, because we have to do some graphical work in 3Dimension, and of course we need smooth monitor.
6. Speaker. Actually this is also additional tools. We can add it. But as an engineer, speaker in computer is not really necessary.
That's all the components of computerthat necessarilly as an engineer. However i prefer laptop than computer, because of some reasons. For example because laptop is easy to bring, so i can do my work wherever i want. There are some types of laptop that can fulfill the needs of an engineering, such as Apple, HP, and Dell. Thus, i will choose one of them as my laptop.
