Computer and It's Impact
Computing is not about computers any more. It is about living. ~Nicholas Negroponte. That quotation makes us realize that, nowadays computers not only does it jobs in computing, but also means that computer is one of our life style. The word “computer” comes from Latin which means “to compute or to reckon”. According to Annual Computer’s book (Robert H.Blissmer), “computer id an electronic which does these things : receive the input, process the input properly with the program, save the tasks and the result from the process, and provide the information as an output. From the definition, we can say that computer is not only a computer, nor a laptop. In its development, computer grows to the more modern electronis, such as iPad, Tablet, Smartphone, Notebook, etc. and we all know that, those kind of all electronics have reach all aspects in our life. We cant deny that, nowadays computer generally has big impacts to make our job easier in the learning process, while working, and to communicate with one another.
First, let’s see what computer can do to help us in the learning process. From the basic function of computer, it’s clear that computer helps us a lot in the learning process. Computer makes us easier to process the data in a short current time. You can imagine how long we use to process the data with so many inputs, and we have to do some arithmatic’s equation. Of course it will take so many hours, and it will create so many mistakes because our limited ability as human. However, not only in computing process, computer also help us in other way. Long ago, all informations, all knowledges, are provided in the book. But, the book itself, which contains of paper, has limited durability. The paper will decompose after years, and it will break the information or the knowledges , yet with computer, we can save all information and knowledges digitally. In this high technology era, we can’t separate computer with internet. And this combination is so mean to our learning process. It shorten the distance. We know that, long long ago, we have to attend the school, physically sit in the class. But, how about we want to study overseas and in the same time we have so many works that we can’t leave? With internet, it will not be a big problem. The students don’t have to attend the class physically. It’s only sit in front of the computer and see the lecturer speaking through the CCTV in the class. So, it really helps our learning process.
The next is, computer does so many things to help our work. In accounting job, law, medical, banking, and others. We can see that, when the light power is off, and the employee can’t access the internet, it’s almost 90% that they can’t do anything else. Because the center is in computer. In the other hand, computer creates so many new jobs to everyone who has the capability in it. In the development of computer, there is a requirement to update all technology in it to fulfill mankind’s necessary. And of course it will take so many employees to make it. That’s how computer can help us in work.
The last is, computer make us easy to communicate with one another. Nowadays, there are so many kinds of social networks that can help us to communicate with other friends, or to make new friends from different country. Let’s see facebook, twitter, blog, tumblr, skype, ans so on, it possibly for you to talk together, to reunion, even to do some business. There are so many touching story about a daughter could meet her father after so many years separated, or an old friend could reunion again after split away. moreover, there are so many online markets activities in the social network.
However, even with all great things above, computer also has so many things weaknesses that can give negative impact for us. We can see it from the healthy risk, violation of privacy and public safety, and also the impact to our environment.
We know, or we all have ever done this; sit for hours in front of computer. Whether we do that to work, play a game, or just surfing the internet. Actually, there are direct impact and indirect impact of it. Direct impact, such as stiff in our hand, backache and others. Indirect impact is the impact that you feel after using computer. It can come from the radiation of computer that can hurt our eyes. Or from the heat of laptop that can ruin our skin, if we usually laptop on our lap.
In this high tech era, where we can get all information easily from internet,it will reduce the pivacy and the safety of other user. And it will make us unconfortbale, even if there is someone with no responsibility hack our privacy.
And the last is the negative impact to our environment. Computer is made of hard material that is dangerous for our environment. For example,the polymer. When the computer is broken and the polymer is discarded, it will not be processed in the nature. It take thousandyears to parse the polymer. And of course it will harm our environment.
However, we have to use computer wisely and efficiently, not too much nor too less, so that we can get the advantages maximally, and of course, have a mutualism relationship between us, the human kind and the computer it self.
